Fresh Coats, Allergy Relief & Spring Grooming Tips at OnlyPaws Grooming

Happy May, OnlyPaws family! Spring is officially here, which means warmer weather, blooming flowers, muddy paws, shedding coats, and seasonal allergies. This month is all about helping your pup feel fresh, comfortable, and ready for sunny days ahead.

May Grooming Focus: Allergies, Itchy Paws & Spring Skin Care

May is one of the biggest months for seasonal allergies in dogs. If your pup is licking their paws, scratching more than usual, rubbing their face, shaking their ears, or seeming extra itchy after being outside, allergies may be playing a role.

At OnlyPaws, I customize each bath based on your dog’s coat and skin needs. For allergy-prone pups, I may use calming, moisturizing, or skin-supporting products to help soothe irritation and support the skin barrier.

A few signs your dog may benefit from an allergy-focused bath:

  • Red or itchy paws

  • Face rubbing

  • Extra scratching

  • Dry or flaky skin

  • Excessive licking

  • Ear irritation or odor

  • Seasonal shedding

Regular grooming can help remove pollen, dirt, loose coat, and outdoor irritants before they build up on your dog’s skin.

May Add-On Spotlight: Allergy Relief Package

This month is a great time to add the Allergy Relief Package to your dog’s groom.

Allergy Relief Package — $10 add-on

Includes:

  • Allergy-friendly skin cleanse

  • Soothing conditioning treatment

  • Paw pad treatment

  • Ear cleaning

  • Leave-in skin/coat support

  • Extra blowout to help remove pollen and loose coat

This is perfect for dogs with itchy paws, seasonal irritation, dry skin, or pups who spend a lot of time outside.

Scent of the Month

This month’s featured scent is:

Spring!

A soft, creamy, elegant fragrance that gives your pup a clean boutique-spa finish without being too overpowering. It is perfect for spring and leaves them smelling fresh, cozy, and polished after their groom.

Spring Shedding Reminder

If your dog is shedding more than normal, you are not alone. May is peak coat-blow season for many breeds. Regular baths, blowouts, and brushing help remove dead coat before it ends up all over your floors, furniture, and clothes.

For double-coated dogs, doodles, seniors, and pups with thick coats, staying on a regular grooming schedule can make a huge difference in comfort and coat health.

Flea & Tick Season Is Here

Warmer weather also means fleas and ticks are becoming more active. Please make sure your dog is up to date on their flea and tick prevention before appointments and outdoor adventures.

After walks, hikes, or backyard playtime, it is a good idea to check your dog’s:

  • Ears

  • Neck

  • Chest

  • Belly

  • Armpits

  • Between toes

  • Around the tail

Early prevention is much easier than dealing with a flea problem later.

May Bandanas & Bows

May bandanas and bows will feature soft spring colors, florals, and fresh seasonal prints. Every groom includes a bandana or bow unless requested otherwise.

May Grooming Tip: Wipe Those Paws

One of the easiest ways to help allergy-prone dogs at home is to wipe their paws after they come inside. Pollen, grass, dirt, and outdoor irritants can sit between the toes and cause licking or itching.

A quick paw wipe after potty breaks or walks can help keep your dog more comfortable between grooming appointments.

Booking Reminder

As warmer weather picks up, grooming appointments tend to fill quickly. If your dog is on a 4, 6, or 8 week schedule, I recommend booking ahead so they stay on track.

Regular maintenance helps prevent matting, keeps skin healthier, reduces shedding, and makes each appointment easier and more comfortable for your pup.

Thank you for continuing to support my home-based salon. I love getting to care for your dogs and make their grooming experience calm, personal, and comfortable.

With love,
